Dark Chocolate Overload

So this weekend I’m going to post a super simple recipe that I usually do at my house on the fly. When I say super easy, I mean, just a couple of ingredients. First thing I’m going to make is some Dark Chocolate Cover Craisins. I had made some for Max (boyfriend) as a little sweet treat one evening. I ended up taking some to work the next day and everyone at my office was raving about how I needed to make more!  Super simple and only $6 bucks to make a whole tray! I know dark chocolate isn’t for everybody but studies show that dark chocolate can improve overall health and lower the risk of heart disease. Now of course you shouldn’t use the extremely sugary kinda and eat everything in moderation!

Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate

  1. Helps restore flexibility to arteries and makes it harder for white blood cells to stick to the walls of your blood vessels. Thus improving blood flow to your heart and even your brain!
  2. It is loaded with organic compounds and antioxidants. These include polyphenols (their role is in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases from emerging), flavanols (promote healthy blood vessel function and can also be found in apples, pears, tea, grapes, and blueberries), catechins (Studies suggest it is protective against coronary heart disease and stroke), among others.
  3. The Flavanols in the Cocoa can protect skin from sun damage. (Would not recommend lathering skin in dark chocolate, you will get sticky)
  4. It is FULL of Minerals! The potassium and copper in the dark chocolate have been proven to help prevent against stroke and cardiovascular ailments. Iron in chocolate protects fight against iron deficiency anemia, and the magnesium in chocolate helps prevent type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
