Alright everyone I have made my first video! Please let me know what you think and if there are any adjustments I can make! Video is located at the bottom of the post!
WARNING! This recipe is SUPER SPICY! Very Hot. I used Hot and Spicy sausage, jalapenos, and added hot sauce. If you do not want it too hot, please adjust to your personal preference. Max likes things that clear out his sinuses, so this worked for us. Might not be for everyone!
Ingredients:
- Bag of Frozen Shrimp
- 3 cut Sausages
- 3 chopped Jalapenos
- Half Chopped Onion
- 3 cloves of Garlic ; chopped
- 24oz of chicken broth (3 cups)
- 6 oz of Tomato paste
- Can of stewed Tomatoes
- Combination of seasonings – Chili Powder, Cumin, Salt, Pepper, Cayenne pepper
- Couple Dashes of Hot sauce – Optional
- Serve with rice
Steps:
With Love,
Love a good crockpot dish. Do you think it would work without the spice for toddlers?

I probably wouldn’t put the jalapenos and only do minimal spices. You can always just skip the spicy elements (hot sauce/seasonings) in the beginning and then once it’s cooked, add your own to each bowl to personal liking. That way the kids can have it mild, and you can have it Hot for yourself.

I’m not big on sausage but this looks amazing!!!

Thanks! You could always substitute the sausage for chicken and it’d probably be leaner than having the fats and little bit of grease in the sausage!

I thoroughly enjoy using my crock pot, it makes life so much easier. Here in South Africa, we are in Autumn, so the cooler weather is approaching, and that is where meals like your gumbo would go down so well. Thanks so much for sharing π

Very interested! I’ll have to try a vegetarian / meatless version – or just add in some seafood π And thanks for liking my recent posts on my blog, Side/Dishes! Feel free to follow along if you’re into more of the same, or any of the weird eclecticism I’ve got on display. π

You could easily make this vegetarian! Just cut out the sausage and shrimp and just use a vegetable stock. Maybe add some potatoes and beans to make it more hearty! Luckily a majority of it is already vegetables!

I’ve done tons of gumbos on the stove, just never on the slow cooker. This has me thinking though – I have a legit Cajun cookbook from the 1880s in my house somewhere, likely in a box, with which I could easily make a very fine, particular gumbo…and a hell of a Defunct Cookbook post on my blog (that’s a thing I do, too – post about weird and obscure, mostly outdated cookbooks that I find…)
