House News!

So this week has been very eventful so far! On Thursday of last week I went and looked at a house I was interested in purchasing! It was under my budget and needed a little bit of work. I was expecting any house in my price range was going to need a little work, so that didn’t bug me. On Friday I decided, I’m not gonna sit and wait on this! So I went ahead and put an offer on it! Over the weekend the seller accepted my offer!

Now for anyone who has tried to purchase a home, things can go south outta nowhere. Whether it has to do with repairs or financing, it’s a pain in the butt. Complications have happened to me twice… On the same house…

Background on that:

Back in July 2015 (last year) I had found a house that I really loved. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it was pretty much completely renovated to my liking. Made it about 1/3 of the way into the paperwork process and it turned out the guy had a lean on the house with the bank. Basically that means the guy had foreclosed on a house previous and the bank was holding this house ransom (now that might not be the exact terminology, but that is what I gathered from talking to my loan officer). I’m like oh well, accidents happen, he’ll get this fixed. So my realtor told him, “Alright, whenever you get this all sorted, let us know and she’ll still want the house!”

Fast-forward to December 2015. Having looked at other house over the past couple months, nothing compared to the first house that got away. The guy comes to my realtor “Hey we got all the stuff fixed, we want to still sell it your client.” I’m so happy! I’m jumping up and down! Hell Yeah! I ask to go back to look at the house again. When I get there it was a gloomy day. Something just felt off and I didn’t have the same feeling that I had before. But I said whatever and just said Yes, Let’s do it. I wanted to get things done as quickly as I could. We hired the inspection. We hounded the seller to turn on the electricity so we could have the inspection done. TWO WEEKS go by and he has not gotten it on. Keeps saying he’s going to go to the Utilities office. “I was sick” “The office was closed” Those were just some of the excuses he came up with. Hoping we just wouldn’t get the inspection. Finally I just said screw this and had them do the inspection anyways. It comes back with a few problems, but that is expected for an older home. Now comes the trouble with the repairs list. Literally he would say he would do something, then come back and say he’s not doing everything. Finally I was tired of this shady crap. The close date was 3 days away and we weren’t even close to closing with this guy. We asked him for a copy of the deed and he said he had it. Of course he wan’t lying when he said he’d have it to us by a certain time. Turns out he didn’t even have it. Turns out he was trying to CON me into getting this house! We did some digging and it turned out he had all kinds of lawsuits for this same crap. I couldn’t freaking believe it. It was ridiculous. Luckily I was able to get my Earnest Money back, but I was out the inspection money. Luckily for me though, the amazing inspector offered to give me a discount on my next inspection because the seller was such as arsehole to me. My faith in Humanity had been restored.

Now when it comes to this new house, I don’t want to get too excited right away. I know things can go wrong, and it could all just become a bust. But I am a little excited that I might have found something better!

Food this week!

Now what you really came on this to read. FOOD! This week I plan on making some kinda appetizer foods I’ve been craving!

Fried Pickles – Might do some Bread and Butter pickle chips with a hot sauce infused breading. You guys know I love a little sweet and spicy!

Fried Cheese Sticks – Oh yeah, who doesn’t love to have melty cheese dripped in ranch or marinara sauce!

Crock Pot Chicken Wings – Hot & Spicy wings. Personal Favorite of Max’s. Of course!

Unfortunately last week I was not able to make the Crab Wontons. When it came to finding the Wonton wrappers, it was a lot harder to find than I assumed. I really created this blog for people who don’t want to have to go to specialty stores and spend a lot of money on ingredients. So I’m going to experiment with a couple options and if I find something close to the original recipe, I’ll post it.

Let me know your favorite appetizer and I might try it as well since these are pretty quick and easy!

With Love,

  1. Congrats on the house Taylor ! Lets be positive, this time around, all will go well. When reading about your ‘last years’ house, I smelt a rat somehow…the dude was shady. Everything happens for a reason.
Enjoy the rest of your week 🙂

    1. Thanks! And I felt something fishy too, but I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and think the best of people. Definitely just going to follow my gut this time! 🙂 You have a great week too!

  2. I have a coworker going through the same thing. She found a house she loved, put in an offer, offer got accepted and then did the inspection—EVERYTHING was wrong with the house! And the current homeowner didn’t want to pay for repairs. So, the deal fell through. However, maybe it’s a sign? A sign that the perfect house is around the corner…
Good luck on your house search!

  3. Hi Taylor! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I LOVE your blog name, and the little pea peeking out at the corner of the screen! Just adorable.

I’m so excited for you re: buying a house! Is this going to be your first time? I’m looking forward to one day being able to buy my own, but I’m also a bit anxious about the prospect due to stories about scams like yours! Thank God you guys looked him up!

For the wonton wrappers, maybe filo pastry would work? : )

    1. Yes, this is going to be my first home! Everything is still going according to plan (THANK GOD!) and I’m supposed to close on Cinco de Mayo! Buying a home is not for the faint of heart. I had no idea it was going to be as stressful as it was, but in the end, hopefully it will be worth it! haha
With the wontons, I thought about doing that! I even thought about making them in little croissants too haha I’m just going to have to experiment!
Also, Thank you for showing so much love for my blog!!!! 🙂
